Husker Big Red Daily: Early odds for Michigan State, North Dakota fallout, volleyball stays perfect

Welcome to Husker Big Red Daily, your daily stop for the latest Nebraska football news, recruiting buzz, transfer portal updates, and Huskers headlines. Here’s a quick look at the latest storylines surrounding Nebraska athletics.

Nebraska football completed a 3-0 start on Saturday night, thanks to a 34-7 win over North Dakota of the FCS.

The Fighting Hawks entered the game averaging over 500 yards of total offense. Jerry Kaminsky should be playing Power-4 football. Instead, he’s trying to win an FCS national title with North Dakota.

It didn’t matter, though. The Blackshirts dominated, holding North Dakota scoreless in the first half. Kaminsky completed just 9-of-18 passes for 106 yards. Nebraska football totaled 493 yards of total offense in an impressive win.

The Huskers have been impressive. They are receiving votes in the Coaches Poll. Next up is Big Ten play.

Nebraska vs. Michigan State odds

Michigan State is 2-1 on the season. The Spartans, who have missed a bowl game in four consecutive seasons, the longest streak in the Big Ten, fell to Notre Dame 27-10 on Saturday night. It was a competitive game. The Spartans (2-1) were impressive on defense.

The Huskers are listed as a 5.5-point favorite even on the road. The over/under is 48.5 and the moneyline is -205 for Nebraska and +168 for Michigan State.

We’ll have much more on the Spartans this week, but this feels like the first real test for Matt Rhule’s Nebraska football team this season.

Nebraska volleyball stays unbeaten

In took four sets in both matches, but Nebraska volleyball improved to 10-0 this weekend with wins over Florida Gulf Coast and North Carolina.

On Sunday, Nebraska won 3-1 over Florida Gulf Coast (25-10, 25-17, 25-27, 25-14). The Huskers hit .333 and held their opponent to .067. Nebraska had a 16-4 advantage on blocks.

Teraya Sigler paced the Husker offense with a season-high 13 kills, followed by Harper Murray with 11 kills on .556 hitting. Ryan Hunter tallied a career-high seven kills and three blocks, while Manaia Ogbechie added five kills and career-high totals of four aces and eight blocks. Campbell Flynn recorded 27 assists, seven digs, four kills and three blocks. Olivia Mauch picked up her first career double-double with 17 digs and 10 assists.

On Friday, Nebraska got a 3-1 win over No. 25 North Carolina by the scores of 25-14, 20-25, 25-21 and 25-10.

The Huskers were paced by 13 aces. That was a season-high and also a Bob Devaney Sports Center record.

Harper Murray had 12 kills. She hit .346 and moved into seventh all time in the rally scoring era. Andi Jackson added 10 kills. Bergen Reilly had 34 assists. She is fourth all time in that category.

Nebraska will host Missouri on Wednesday to finish the Wrigley Field match and close out non-conference play.
