5 things to watch for Nebraska football against North Dakota

Game three for the Nebraska football team comes Saturday night against North Dakota, an FCS team that could give the Huskers a run for their money.

Both teams are 3-0. The Fighting Hawks are ranked sixth in the latest FCS Poll, and here are five things you need to know, including the odds and how to watch for Nebraska vs. North Dakota.

Nebraska is a 24.5-point favorite against North Dakota. The over/under is 50.5. The money is -2200 for the Huskers and +1600 for North Dakota.

The best quarterback the Huskers have faced

Jerry Kaminski will be one of the better quarterbacks the Huskers will face this season. Make no mistake, he should be starting for Iowa or Minnesota, somewhere in the Big Ten.

Instead, the 6-foot-2 quarterback, who has led North Dakota to at least 42 points in each of their three wins, is aiming to bring an FCS national championship to North Dakota, at least the North Dakota program, after North Dakota State dominated the FCS for years.

Kaminski is completing 77 percent of his throws and averaging 10 yards per attempt. He’s got a season-long pass of just 29 yards, but has 11 TD passes and just two interceptions. The dual-threat quarterback is averaging 25 rushing yards per game, too. North Dakota as a team averages 540 yards of total offense.

Rub Aurich’s defense is allowing just 236 yards per game. The Huskers have allowed 124 passing yards per game. Quarterbacks are completing 50 percent of their passes.

The Blackshirts will be tested this week by Kaminski, and it will be the biggest test the Huskers have faced so far this season.

A test for the defensive line, too

Matt Rhule called the North Dakota offensive line one of the best-coached units that he has ever seen.

“I think their offensive line is as good as I have seen in terms of technique. I don’t even know their offensive line coach, and I look forward to shaking his hand after the game, and I love watching guys that play with great technique and precision. I love their play style, and when I say play style, I mean how physical and violent they play, and they have them,” Rhule said.

The defensive line is still a big question mark. Nebraska has four sacks and 10 tackles for loss. Still, that group has a lot to prove when Big Ten play begins. This will provide the best test, at least during non-conference play.

Anthony Colandrea should feast

As explosive as North Dakota has been this season, the Fighting Hawks are allowing 23 points per game. They haven’t played the most difficult schedule either.

The Big Ten Player of the Week, after throwing four touchdowns and having just four incompletions, is a different kind of quarterback than North Dakota has faced so far this season.

Nebraska is rushing for 256 yards per game. The Huskers will give up some points on Saturday, but the offense won’t skip a beat
