Nebraska football continues to build a strong 2027 recruiting class, adding another blue-chip commitment on Wednesday with the addition of four-star defensive lineman Nehemiah Ombati.

The 6-foot-2, 275-pound defensive lineman is the 16th commitment for Matt Rhule’s program in the 2027 class. He’s the eighth blue-chip commitment and is ranked No. 379 overall, according to the 247 Sports composite rankings.

Minnesota, Michigan State, Missouri, Washington, and Wisconsin were some of the top contenders. However, the Huskers sealed the deal following an official visit last week.

Ombati was credited with 70 tackles last season, six tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks, and two forced fumbles. Errol Demotagnac, who committed last Friday, had 86 tackles last season, to go along with 14 sacks. You never quite know how that production will translate but it’s something you have to feel good about.

The blue-chip defensive lineman had a bunch of Big Ten offers. Some SEC teams were interested, too, so this is a nice win for Nebraska, which has gotten six commitments in the past six days.

Nebraska has a solid blue-chip percentage

The 2027 class has 16 commitments total, and with eight ranked as blue-chip prospects, the Huskers are right at 50 percent. They have been trending for two other blue-chip prospects, so 10 feels like the floor.

It could even get to 11 or 12, depending on what happens with Ahmad Hudson. Jailen Hill is visiting this weekend. Nebraska is the favorite to land him, according to the Rivals Recruiting Prediction Machine.

Matthew Gregory is the other four-star recruit projected to Nebraska. He’s ranked 97th overall, and Trae Taylor got a fifth star from 247 Sports on Wednesday, so the team ranking moved up again, to 17th.

Things are trending up, and after landing just one defensive lineman a year ago, Corey Brown has landed three quality players up front and one four-star recruit. That’s solid, just like the Huskers are doing really solid work with the entire 2027 recruiting class.
