Trae Taylor has become a beacon of hope for Nebraska football fans. Now, Ohio State is trying to rip that away.

Ohio State has a four-star quarterback commitment in its 2027 recruiting class, but not at the level of Taylor. Ryan Day has gotten to evaluate Taylor, due to his son also being a recruit, and Ohio State has started making a push, with a recent in-home visit.

This is according to Allen Trieu of Rivals. Ohio State has the No. 8 class right now in the 2027 recruiting rankings, and the track record of Day is impressive. The Buckeyes won the national championship two years ago, and Julian Sayin, the current starting quarterback, is expected to be a first-round pick next April.

Ohio State signed just a three-star recruit in the last recruiting class, so there could be a chance for some early playing time if Sayin does leave early.

How worried should Nebraska football fans be about Trae Taylor?

The Buckeyes are a football factory. Nebraska is trying to become that once again under Matt Rhule. Despite this push from Ohio State, there doesn’t seem to be reason for concern, at least not right away on the Nebraska side of things.

Taylor is expected to enroll at Millard South. Trieu also reported that Trae informed Ohio State he wouldn’t be taking any visits. Until that changes, I wouldn’t worry much about a flip. It is Ohio State, though, so a fair amount of concern is reasonable.

It’s also a good sign, though. You want elite programs looking at Taylor. It gives me even more confidence that he will be the one to help turn things around if the Huskers can hold his commitment until signing day.
