Nebraska makes mind-boggling mistake in loss to Iowa

Nebraska only had four players on the court during a crucial play late against Iowa, costing the Huskers a chance at a comeback.

The dream season for Nebraska basketball ended with a nightmare on Thursday night.

Nebraska had multiple 10-point leads against Iowa. They were up by as many as eight points in the second half before the offense fell apart.

Nebraska finished just 13-of-38 from the 3-point line. They died by the 3-point shot. However, that wasn’t the worst offense in the 77-71 loss to Iowa.

After a Braden Frager 3-point shot cut the lead down to three points, Iowa had the ball out of bounds on its own end of the floor.

There was 58 seconds left on the clock. If Nebraska could get a stop or a turnover, the game was far from over. Yet, the Huskers didn’t even give themselves a chance.

Whether it was supposed to be Frager or Rienk Mast, we might never know, but only four Nebraska basketball players were on the court. Iowa threw the ball long, made a bucket, got fouled, and that was the game.

Nebraska’s first trip to the Sweet 16 ends with bitter loss to rival Iowa. The Hawkeyes will play either Illinois or Houston for a trip to the Final Four.

Nebraska season ends in heartbreak

The NCAA Tournament is exhilarating and heartbreaking.

Nebraska fans tasted both ends of the spectrum in the past week. Sandfort finished with 25 points on 8-of-13 shooting. Frager had 16 points and made five 3-pointers. Rienk Mast made just 4-of-15 shots. Sam Hoiberg was 3-of-7 and missed some bunnies. He also had five turnovers.

It was a rough way for their Nebraska careers to end. This is still the best Nebraska team of all time, but that was a terrible way for the season to end.

We will always be asking, what if?
