Spring ball has been kind of low-key for Nebraska football. Part of that was design. Part of that was the Huskers making the Sweet 16 in basketball.

There have been some good distractions for Nebraska fans this winter. So there hasn’t been the fervor for spring ball that there usually is. Some fans seem apathetic toward the program.

That’s understandable after years of offseason hype, only to see disappointing results. This offseason, the hype has been tempered, at least from the outside looking in.

However, one thing Nebraska football fans can feel good about, is the progress being made on the recruiting trail by Matt Rhule and his staff.

Nebraska with positive trends on recruiting trail

Nebraska just landed its seventh commitment of the 2027 class last Friday. The Huskers have also been projected to land three others recently, along with in-state offensive lineman Barrett Kitrell.

That means the Huskers are the leader for four 2027 recruits, at least according to the Rivals Recruiting Prediction Machine. Beyond that, Nebraska is expected to have some big-time recruits on campus for the spring game, headlined by five-star offensive tackle Mark Matthews.

The 6-foot-6, 300-pounder out of Fort Lauderdale has a recent crystal ball projection to Miami. The Hurricanes will be tough to beat in this recruitment, but this visit gives the Huskers some hope. If Matthews comes back for an official visit, that would be a huge step in the right direction.

He will visit, according to Bryan Munson of Husker Online. Trae Taylor will be back on campus for the spring game, along with four-star cornerback Juju Johnson, four-star IOL Kyler Kuhn, four-star offensive tackle Oluwasemilore Olubobola, four-star DL Nehemiah Ombati, another four-star DL Zahmar Tookes, as well as two who have been trending with expert picks, Kitrell and DL Errol Demontagnac.

Gus Corsair, another four-star offensive lineman from Kansas, also visited on Tuesday. More recruits will be scheduling visits, too. As of now, there are at least 10 blue-chip recruits scheduled to be on campus for the spring game.

Kitrell, who will visit twice this week, might be one to watch in terms of a commitment.
