Nebraska football had a busy month last June and it’s shaping up to be busy again for the Huskers, who landed their second commitment of the month on Saturday.
In-state linebacker Pierce Mooberry announced his commitment on Saturday, giving Nebraska football its 10th commitment in the 2025 class. Mooberry is the fifth in-state recruit committed to Matt Rhule.
The 6-foot-4, 200-pound prospect out of Omaha is expected to play linebacker for the Huskers. He plays for Millard North and is ranked No. 889 overall in the 2025 class according to the 247 Sports composite rankings. Mooberry is also ranked seventh among recruits in the state of Nebraska. He chose Nebraska over Iowa State, Kansas State, Minnesota, Kansas, and others.
Here are three thoughts on what it means for Nebraska football.
A versatile defender
Mooberry is a really interesting prospect. He’s expected to play Will linebacker for Nebraska football and it’s a perfect fit for his skill set. His high school highlights show him playing safety and he moves well. He’s very fluid in the hips and should do just fine covering backs and tight ends.
Mooberry also has some pass-rush ability. He’s a rangy dude and that’s a good thing for coverage and getting in throwing lanes. He also sees the field well and isn’t afraid to come up and hit.
It’s always possible that he plays safety at Nebraska but he’s probably not quick enough. He’s a really solid player though and this is another good get for the Huskers on the defensive side of the ball.
Another in-state recruiting win for Matt Rhule
Nebraska football wasn’t the first offer, but the Huskers did make Mooberry a priority. Since the day Matt Rhule was hired, in-state recruits have been a top priority.
Rhule made sure to land Malachi Coleman in that first 2023 class. He followed it up by landing Carter Nelson, Daniel Kaelin, Isaiah McMorris, and Dae’Vonn Hall in the 2024 class.
Mooberry is the fourth in-state commitment in the 2025 class. That’s four of the top seven so far and even though there is work to do with Christian Jones and Chase Loftin, I like the Huskers’ chances too.
Don’t bet against Matt Rhule when it comes to landing in-state recruits.
Nebraska’s 2025 class is trucking along
The Huskers have landed seven commitments since mid-April. Two of those commitments were four-star recruits according to the 247 Sports composite rankings at running back and quarterback.
Even though the rest were three-star prospects, Nebraska has some good takes in there. We aren’t seeing as many zero-star offers by the staff in this class. That doesn’t really matter in the grand scheme of things but it does show that Nebraska is aiming a little higher.
I wouldn’t expect this class to be quite as big as the previous class. Somewhere in the 20-25 range but Nebraska is halfway there with a quarterback and running back in toe. Now, the Huskers need to add some offensive line recruits, plus some D-line prospects, especially at EDGE.
But for the most part, Nebraska football fans should feel very good about the 2025 class that’s ranked 29th overall currently according to 247 Sports.
