We got a second look at the 2025 Nebraska volleyball team ahead of the season opener on Friday. After an intrasquad scrimmage last Saturday, the Huskers took on some of their best alumni, but notched a 3-1 win by the scores of 25-21, 25-14, 17-25, and 25-22.
Harper Murray led the current Nebraska volleyball team with 12 kills. She also had five digs and a block in addition to hitting .476. Andi Jackson hit .389 on her way to 11 kills, three aces, and three blocks. The Huskers hit .295 as a team. Their opponents, the alumni, hit .251.
Ally Batenhorst had 13 kills. Lindsay Krause finished with 12. Kelly Hunter Natter finished with 46 assists. Bergen Reilly had 37 assists and eight digs for the 2025 team.
Here are three thoughts with the 2025 Nebraska volleyball season starting in six days.
Starting lineup lessons
Dani Busboom-Kelly could have a different starting lineup next week, but Laney Choboy was in the libero spot. Bergen Reilly was the setter, taking most of the work, while Virginia Adriano got the nod as the opposite hitter. Harper Murray and Taylor Landfair were the outside hitters, along with Rebekah Allick and Andi Jackson as middle blockers.
Adriano, the talented Italian, didn’t disappoint. The freshman had six kills (.600), two blocks, and two digs. When Nebraska had its first group, the offense was firing on all cylinders. Taylor Landfair only took four swings but hit .250. Allick hit .400. The senior was credited with four blocks, too.
It was an impressive effort, and at this point, it feels like that will be the starting lineup next Friday against Pittsburgh.
Harper Murray is in mid-season form
The former No. 1 overall recruit certainly seems poised to become the Big Ten Player of the Year. The two-time first-team All-Big Ten selection is serving the ball better than ever. She hit over .476 on Saturday, added five digs, three aces, and a block. The junior was the only player to register a stat in all five categories.
So far, the outside hitter has put together an incredible Nebraska volleyball career, but make no mistake, her best is yet to come.
Is there a better block in college volleyball?
Murray is one of the best hitters in the sport. That’s hard enough for opponents to deal with, but the Huskers have one of the best attacking middles in the country, too. Two of them.
Allick is a force around the net. Not only does she set the tone with her leadership, on and off the court, the senior is also one of the top defensive middles in the country. She had four blocks on Saturday.
Jackson’s slide shot has become impossible to stop. Many of the young players stood out. Some struggled, but the depth is there for the Huskers.
Now, it’s time to get on the floor against a team with a different colored uniform. That will happen against Pittsburgh on Friday in a matchup of top-5 teams as the top-ranked Huskers will square off against the third-ranked Panthers at 6 p.m. CST on Fox Sports.
