Nebraska football fans had to wait a week, but the Huskers ended up landing blue-chip cornerback Bryson Webber in the end. The four-star from Missouri City, who is 6-foot-2, 175 pounds, announced his commitment to Nebraska on Sunday, giving the Huskers their 16th of the 2025 class.
Webber immediately becomes one of my favorites. He’s ranked No. 298 overall in the 2025 class according to the 247 Sports composite rankings and he’s the third-highest pledge for Nebraska football.
Nebraska is ranked 29th overall in the 2025 class according to 247 Sports team rankings and here are three thoughts on the commitment of Webber.
A perfect fit for Nebraska football
When you watch the film, you can see instantly why Webber is a blue-chip prospect. This spring, he ran the 100-meter dash in 10.56 seconds. He runs the 200 in 21.79 and is 6-foot-2.
The Huskers love players with that kind of speed and it’s hard to blame them. But there is more that makes Webber a perfect fit. He’s an aggressive man corner. Webber plays press-man often. He can also play zone and has an eye for the ball.
At times, he gets overaggressive trying to make a play, but I loved what I saw from him in man coverage. He can match up, is physical, has great closing speed, and has good ball skills.
This is a really good find.
A recruiting win for John Butler
Nebraska football announced the hire of secondary coach John Butler earlier this week and Butler was also critical in the Huskers’ efforts to land Webber.
Evan Cooper was the lead recruiter for Webber, so when he resigned, it led the four-star cornerback to delay his decision to get to know Buter.
Whatever Butler said to him must have worked. TCU and Utah were the other top contenders, but Nebraska runs a perfect scheme for Webber and under Butler, he has a great chance to develop into an NFL draft pick.
Huskers doing well outside the state of Nebraska
Nebraska football has recruited the state really well since Matt Rhule has been the head coach. But the Huskers have shown they can go beyond in-state talent and Webber is another example of that.
Out of the Huskers’ 16 commitments, four of them are blue chips and all four of those are from out of state. Webber is the second from Texas. Nebraska has also gotten blue-chip commitments from California and Missouri.
Nebraska has done a solid job with in-state commitments in 2025. The Huskers have landed five of the top eight in-state recruits in 2025. They missed on Chase Loftin and could miss on Christian Jones — the two four-star prospects in the state for 2025.
But, you’re not going to bat 1,000. Players have their own agenda in a recruitment and playing for the home team isn’t always the best option. So you have to like that Nebraska can go to Texas, Florida, California, Missouri, and other places for talent.
Rhule’s ties to Texas were always expected to pay off on the recruiting trail. There is a ton of blue-chip talent in the Lone Star State and the Huskers have done a good job of getting some.
