Quinn Clark becoming obvious breakout candidate for Nebraska

Finding breakout candidates is a common fall camp exercise, but at this point, Nebraska football player Quinn Clark is making it easy.

The third-year player from Bozeman, Montana, who once earned a scholarship offer from Matt Rhule personally during a summer camp, and the son of Husker great Ken Clark, has been one of the best players in camp this fall, and that’s not even hyperbole.

Dana Holgorsen, the Nebraska football offensive coordinator, said as much after Friday’s practice during his press conference with the local media.

“He’s made as many plays as anyone,” Holgorsen said. “He looks good. I guess I have to go 10 personnel (one back, four wide receivers) because he deserves to be on the field a lot.”

The 6-foot-5 sophomore only caught a few passes last season (5 for 132), but he was impactful when he did catch the ball, notching three separate plays of 31 yards or more. One was against Minnesota and another came against Utah in the bowl game, so it wasn’t like this was garbage time.

Expect more of that this season. The buzz about Clark didn’t just start during the fall either. He’s been talked about since the spring, when Anthony Colandrea spoke about the impact he could make.

The former high jump state champion, who runs a 4.4 in the 40, is one of the best pure athletes on the team. Nyziah Hunter, Jacory Barney, and Kwazi Gilmer all had at least 484 receiving yards last season, so those guys are going to get the ball, but Holgorsen indicating that more four wide receiver sets are coming, because of Clark’s play feels signfiicant.

That may or may not be true. What is true is that Clark is going to be on the field this season, and with his 6-foot-5 frame, he could have a much bigger role in the 2026 season than once expected.
