Nebraska football was able to land transfer portal running back target Dante Dowdell. The running back made the announcement on Saturday night.

Dowdell originally played at Oregon. He was a four-star recruit in the 2023 class. Dowdell appeared in six games, and carried the ball 17 times for 90 yards. He was productive in doing so, averaging 5.3 yards per carry.

He will have three years of eligibility remaining for the Huskers.

This is a major get for Nebraska football, as the program desperately needed some running back depth. Emmet Johnson and Gabe Ervin are definite contributors in the running back room. Rahmir Johnson is coming back as well. However, health has been an issue for Ervin and Rahmir over the course of their careers. The addition of Dowdell allows for depth at the running back position, and a player that can start immediately.

What can he bring to Nebraska football?

Dowdell is an extremely quick running back, who works best when he bounces to the outside. From there, he can use his speed to make defenders miss and get into the open field. Once he is in the open field, he is difficult to stop. The running back does not waste time in hitting the hole either. As soon as he gets the football, he explodes and gets to the second level immediately.

Dowdell should be an instant impact play maker for Nebraska football. He also fills a need for Nebraska in terms of adding a running back to this upcoming class. The Huskers missed out on, Kewan Lacy who decommitted on October 26. That left a hole for Nebraska in the 2024 class. Dowdell fills that hole, and he should be able to help out the running back room.

This marks the second transfer edition in as many days, and the third edition in the transfer group overall. Isaiah Neyor was added on Friday, and Blye Hill was added during the course of Early Signing Day. Landing Dowdell is yet another example of Nebraska football sealing the deal with the targets they want most.

It will be interesting to see exactly what type of impact the running back makes. There is a very good chance that he starts immediately, in what is a talented running back room overall. Nebraska has put together a solid 2024 class. These transfer additions are just the proverbial cherry on top, as the program looks to get next-level talent to Lincoln.
