Nebraska Cornhuskers news: A beat down in basketball, football recruiting and more

Nebraska basketball got whipped on the road, Nebraska football made the cut list for a 4-star recruit, and more on the Nebraska Cornhuskers.

It was a rough night for the Nebraska Cornhuskers on the basketball court on Wednesday night as the Huskers suffered a 93-72 loss at the hands of Michigan.

Keisei Tominaga had another stellar game for the Huskers and went over 20 for the second consecutive game. The junior scored 24 points total and connected on four triples. He did his best to keep the Huskers in the game but Nebraska allowed 14 3-pointers by Michigan.

There’s no way Nebraska was going to win after getting outscored by 21 points at the 3-point line. In the grand scheme of things, this wasn’t a huge deal. This was a winnable game but not one the Huskers expected to win.

They are 4-9 overall in the Big Ten as well as 11-14. They would need to finish 5-2 and win a Big Ten tournament game to have a shot at the NIT. It’s a long shot but beating Wisconsin at home on Saturday is a must.

Nebraska football makes cut list for Aeryn Hampton

Nebraska football fans should know the name of Aeryn Hampton, a top-100 recruit in the 2024 class that actually tagged Dylan Raiola in a tweet a couple of months ago.

Nebraska football offered Hampton in December and it makes sense because the 5-foot-10, 175-pound wideout is from Daingerfield, Texas. He was committed to the Longhorns at one time, but Alabama is now looking like the favorite for the top-100 recruit in the 2024 class.

However, Nebraska football made the top seven released on Wednesday along with Alabama, Michigan, LSU, Oregon, Texas, and Oklahoma.

Hampton visited Alabama’s junior day earlier this month and received a couple of crystal ball projections. So the Tide is the favorite but if Nebraska football can get Hampton on campus for an official visit, who knows?

In recruiting, just about anything is possible.

Three Nebraska players invited to NFL combine

Trey Palmer, Travis Vokolek, and Ochaun Mathis all received invites to the NFL combine, it was announced on Wednesday. Good for each of those former Huskers.

One Nebraska football player that wasn’t invited was Garrett Nelson. People questioned his decision to leave Nebraska for the NFL draft and this might be a sign that he’s not a sure-fire draft pick.

Just because you don’t get invited to the combine, doesn’t mean you won’t get drafted. Players that don’t get picked all the time. Nelson is good enough to at least earn a rookie free agent contract but he has some work to do clearly if he wants to hear his name in the 2023 NFL draft.
