The 2024 NFL draft will be the last one for a long time in which Nebraska football players aren’t picked. Still, I was a little surprised that Omar Brown didn’t end up going in the seventh round.

The defensive back had a stellar 2024 season for the Huskers and finished with 51 tackles, three tackles for loss, an interception, and a pass breakup.

Yet, Brown is among three Nebraska football players who have already signed rookie free-agent deals with NFL teams. Brown signed a deal with the Denver Broncos on Saturday night after the draft.

Undrafted free agents make their way onto NFL rosters all the time. Brown could have a great shot to do just that. He’s played cornerback and safety in college, plus he could contribute on special teams.

More Nebraska football players signed as rookie free agents

Former Nebraska football safety Phalen Sanford is also getting a chance in the league with the Las Vegas Raiders. the 6-foot defensive back had 40 tackles in 12 games for Nebraska last season and he’s a freak athlete.

Sanford could have a great shot to make the team as a special teamer. Matt Rhule has consistently talked about him and just like Omar Brown, the kicking game could be his best chance to make a 53-man roster or a practice squad.

Former Nebraska football offensive lineman Nouredin Nouili is also getting an NFL opportunity with the New Orleans Saints. At 6-foot-4, 315 pounds, Nouili started 11 games last season for the Huskers and missed just one start due to injury. He also started seven games for Nebraksa football during the 2021 season.

Nouili could have a shot in the National Footbal League simply due to the poor play up front around the league but with guys like Ty Robinson, Nash Hutmacher, Isaac Gifford, Thomas Fidone, Tommi Hill, and many more, the Huskers will have a bevy of draft picks in 2025 and beyond.
