Nebraska football has a new transfer portal wide receiver on the board, plus more Nebraska Cornhuskers news.

The Nebraska Cornhuskers might not be super active in the transfer portal this cycle but Nebraska football certainly seems to want a wide receiver.

Nebraska football has plenty of young talent at the position led by Malachi Coleman and Jaylen Lloyd. Both of those guys caught 40-yard plus touchdowns in Big Ten play. Lloyd actually did it three times and was the only player besides Marvin Harrison Jr. to do that.

But the Nebraska Cornhuskers would be very young if a veteran isn’t added. Billy Kemp is out of eligibility and Marcus Washington reported on Saturday that he won’t get a waiver for another season. We haven’t heard anything about Isaiah Garcia-Castaneda, yet the pursuit of Julian Fleming was a clue that Nebraska wants to add a wideout.

Fleming has been trending to Penn State since the Kyle McCord recruitment went south following the news of Dylan Raiola visiting Nebraska broke.

The Huskers can’t feel good about where they stand with Fleming, which could be why they offered Wake Forest transfer Jahmal Banks.

What to know about Jahmal Banks

Banks is a big, productive receiver. He’s 6-foot-4, 208 pounds. Banks also has 107 career receptions for 1,404 yards and 13 touchdowns, which includes an average of 13.1 yards per reception. Michigan is also after Banks and the big wideout is expected to visit Ann Arbor.

However, the Huskers could have a couple of advantages. One, Michigan is somewhat averse to NIL in a way that Nebraska isn’t. Also, there aren’t any questions about who the head coach or quarterback will be next season in Lincoln.

It’s going to be Matt Rhule and Dylan Raiola. Michigan could have Jim Harbaugh and J.J. McCarthy if they both elect to return. But that won’t be known for weeks. The visit won’t happen until next month because we are in a dead period, but with all the moving parts at Michigan, Nebraska should have a decent shot with Banks.

Anthony Grant declares for NFL draft

As we said, Marcus Washington won’t return to Nebraska football next season and neither will Anthony Grant. This was expected, but Grant officially declared for the NFL draft on Saturday.

Grant rushed for 915 yards on 218 carries for the Huskers in 2022. This past season Grant ran the ball 104 times for 413 yards which was an average of four yards per carry. He had some issues holding onto the ball, but it will be interesting to see if he gets signed as a rookie free agent.

I see him getting an NFL opportunity, but not getting drafted. You never know though.
