Rivals finally sees error of its ways with Nebraska QB commit Trae Taylor

The two most respected systems of high school football recruitings — the 247 Sports composite rankings and the Rivals Industry Rankings — now each have Trae Taylor ranked as a five-star recruit and the No. 1 overall quarterback.

That wasn’t the case before Monday, when Rivals updated its recruiting rankings for the 2027 class. Taylor put together an impressive summer, which included winning the MVP award at the Elite 11, so it wasn’t a shock.

It was actually shocking how low Taylor was ranked by Rivals previously. He was No. 70 overall. The Nebraska football commitment was also ranked as the No. 6 quarterback.

Rivals rectified that, moving Taylor up to 17th overall in Rivals’ own rankings. He’s now the No. 11 recruit and the No. 1 quarterback in the Rivals Industry Rankings. The 6-foot-3, 200-pound quarterback has transferred from the Chicago area to Omaha, where he will play for Millard South, before joining the Huskers for the 2027 season.

Taylor is one of the top-ranked commitments in Nebraska football history, at least in the era of recruiting rankings. Dylan Raiola was right up there, too.

Matt Rhule has done a great job of locking down Taylor. Ohio State had interest in trying to flip him, but the blue-chip quarterback has stayed committed. He has also helped Nebraska football land five commitments in the top 148 overall of the 247 Sports composite rankings (10 blue chips overall).

Taylor feels like a game-changing commitment for this program under Rhule, so it’s good to see Rivals finally sort out their rankings.
