Welcome to Husker Big Red Daily, your daily stop for the latest Nebraska football news, recruiting buzz, transfer portal updates, and Huskers headlines. Here’s a quick look at the latest storylines surrounding Nebraska athletics.

Nebraska football’s recruiting momentum has reached a high point in June, following five commitments over the weekend.

More were expected this week, but there has been a change to the schedule of four-star cornerback Jailen Hill, who actually didn’t make it to Lincoln for his official visit.

Hill was delayed by weather. He will visit this weekend, which caused his original commitment date of June 9th to be pushed back. Nebraska football fans shouldn’t worry. The Huskers are still the favorite and can wrap up a commitment this weekend with a strong visit.

Nebraska has also received more expert projections for top-100 WR Matthew Gregory. Sean Callahan of Husker Online and Brian Christopherson added predictions on Monday, so the Huskers should land a fifth top-100 commitment in the 2027 class soon. Gregory doesn’t have a commitment date, but also doesn’t have any other visits scheduled.

Latest on Nebraska football: trying to flip five-star Ahmad Hudson

The five-star tight end spoke with Rivals after his official visit. He said Nebraska was “close”, whatever that means. He also said the Huskers would change the offense for him.

Some have acted worried about that statement, which is really confusing. Hudson is a 6-foot-6, 240-pound tight end who runs like a receiver. Nebraska hasn’t had a player like that in the history of the program.

Yes, the Huskers would and should change the offense to get him the ball.

Hudson is ranked 18th overall in the 2027 class, but visited soon after a commitment to LSU. According to Steve Sipple, Nebraska feels “legitimately good” about landing the five-star tight end.

The official visit went well. Fred Hoiberg also played a key role in it. Sipple said Nebraska was not “aggressive” on the basketball side of things before that. However, that changed this weekend, which was “important” to Hudson in the words of the Nebraska insider.

It’s hard to believe Nebraska is close to flipping a player of this caliber, but with Trae Taylor leading the way as a peer recruiter, it always felt like there was a connection between Hudson and Nebraska.

Maybe, just maybe, it will lead to him playing in Lincoln.

Texas Tech schedule ban

After Brendan Sorsby was ruled eligible by a Texas court on Monday, Nebraska was one of the schools that is taking action. Athletic director Troy Dannen informed his coaches that Nebraska will not play or schedule any games against Texas Tech in any sport.

Georgia has announced the same thing. Many programs within the Big 12 are furious, and there is talk of those programs boycotting Texas Tech, too.

Things are getting crazy, and from a Nebraska perspective, don’t expect to see the Red Raiders on the schedule anytime soon.

Transfer portal departure

Nebraska pitcher Cooper Katskee has entered the transfer portal. He was a third-team All-American at Miami (OH), before coming to Lincoln, yet he was 6-2 with a 5.79 ERA last season, moving between the rotation and the bullpen.

Ty Horn is also exploring the draft, so two of Nebraska’s top four pitchers could be gone, although the Huskers could clearly use some upgrades to the pitching staff.

Carson Jasa is expected back. He was All-Big Ten last season. Gavin Blachowicz is also expected to return or at least has eligibility to return.
