In a surprise announcement, 2027 quarterback recruit Trae Taylor announced he would visit Nebraska football once again this weekend.

Soon after, Bryan Munson, the top recruiting expert for Husker Online, put in an expert projection for the On3 recruiting prediction machine for Taylor to wind up committing to Nebraska.

Regardless, we’ll find out soon enough if that prediction is accurate. Taylor, who is 6-foot-3, 185 pounds, has announced a commitment date of May 1st.  The quarterback from Illinois is ranked No. 35 overall in the 2027 class according to the 247 Sports composite rankings.

LSU, Texas A&M, Michigan, and Illinois were each named in his top five. Alabama, Auburn, and Notre Dame also received spring visits. Taylor visited Nebraska football at the end of March. It felt like the Huskers were near the top of his recruitment then, but LSU and others lingered.

The announcement of the visit this weekend could move the needle in Nebraska’s direction. This visit isn’t a guarantee of a commitment. Neither is the prediction from Munson. However, it makes sense.

If Taylor does commit, it would be perfect for the Huskers. He’s a 2027 quarterback, so he’d be a true freshman in 2027, which would either be the senior season of Dylan Raiola or Raiola’s first season in the NFL.

TJ Lateef and Dayton Raiola will battle it out to be the next starting quarterback. Taylor could be in the mix, too. Either way, if the Huskers land him, the quarterback room will be extremely healthy, well into the future.
